The Aussie Sidecar Stories podcast has come from a place of passion for a sport that is undervalued and does not get anywhere near as much hype as it should.
Coming into the podcast, I was pretty clueless as to what was involved with creating a podcast, let alone one that aimed to talk to guests based all across Australia.
I am a print journalist by trade so talking to people and connecting with them was never going to be the issue. Nor was finding the stories, as everyone has something to share despite many people worrying that they ‘have not done all that much’. But the podcast is all about passion and that is what I am looking for, not time on track or trophies on the shelves.
This passion is what has shone from the start. My first couple of guests were people I knew, friends who I could test the waters with and that wouldn’t give me too much grief if things went wrong. Then people I didn’t know started reaching out saying they would like to support the podcast by jumping on as a guest. I was so excited by this as it validated the concept.
There are some guests I have reached out to, some have been recommended and others have reached out to me, and I appreciate everyone who has given their time to help promote the sport.
Every conversation has brought something different to the table, and that is the true value in an independent passion project – we can roll with what the community is looking for and only have to answer to the fans.
There have been so many leaps of faith so far and we have not yet hit one year since the first episode was released. We have gone from audio only, to uploading to YouTube, and now I am developing this website to keep promoting sidecar racing in Australia.
There are more ideas I am working on developing, and I look forward to having everyone along for the ride.
For those asking, an About Us page is in the works, passion doesn’t pay the bills in this case so work has had to come first.
